What is a Fair Usage Policy?
A Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is a standard industry practice applied to unlimited data plans. It defines a daily high-speed data allowance — once this allowance is consumed, you can continue using data at a reduced speed for the remainder of the day. The high-speed allowance automatically resets at the start of each new day.
How does it work?

- Ceangal ráthaithe gan bhriseadh: Once you've used your daily high-speed data, the connection speed is reduced (e.g. to 384 Kbps). You can still browse, use messaging apps, and check email — but streaming and large downloads will be slower.
- Athshocrú uathoibríoch laethúil saor in aisce: Your high-speed data allowance resets automatically every day at midnight (local time). There's no action needed on your part.
Example
Go praiticiúil: If your plan includes 2 GB/Day with a FUP speed of 384 Kbps: you get 2 GB of high-speed data each day. After using 2 GB, you can continue browsing at 384 Kbps until midnight, when the counter resets and you get another 2 GB of high-speed data.
Why does FUP exist?
FUP is a standard practice by mobile operators worldwide. It ensures that the network remains fast and reliable for all users by preventing excessive usage from affecting the quality of service for others. It allows operators to offer truly unlimited plans at affordable prices while maintaining a great experience for everyone.
Do all plans have FUP?
No. Only certain unlimited data plans are subject to a Fair Usage Policy. Plans without FUP offer unrestricted high-speed data for their entire validity period. You can check whether a plan has FUP in the plan details before purchasing.
